Democrats need to realize they are up against an opposition that is ruthless and devious. I am seeing a society barely staying afloat. The great American ideal of each generation doing better than the preceding one is gone. GOP policies have weakened our nation and endangered our future. The richest Americans don’t need a tax cut. Trickle-down economics is just a Republican dirty trick which I see right through. It has been proven time and time again to fail.

One needs to look no further than the state of Kansas as an obvious example. I am proud to have been born and raised in Las Vegas. I grew up going to public school and playing sports with my friends in our public parks. I graduated from Clark High School in 1983. After high school, I was awarded an academic scholarship to Pepperdine University in California, where I also played some college baseball. I have owned and operated my own insurance agency for the past 16 years.

I built my agency from the ground up. I pride myself on being a self-made businessman. My experience provides me with insight into the challenges faced by the Nevada family. I have a front row seat to the struggles of middle class America. I see the effects of income inequality. I see families unable to send their children to college. I see that most people have no extra money to invest for retirement.

I have enjoyed being married to my loving and supportive wife, Alison for 14 years. Like me, she is devoted to our family and community. She has been a busy stay at home mother to our three girls, and a volunteer youth group leader. She is currently completing her Masters and teaching certification through UNLV. She is excited to return to work and assist with the teacher shortage in Clark County.

Most of my extended family also lives in Las Vegas, including my father, mother, and brother. I’m known for being direct, so let me be clear: Healthcare is a right of the people. My number one concern is saving healthcare in the United States. As a self-employed person for 16 years, I buy my family’s policy in the individual marketplace. I know more about health insurance than most of our politicians. The ACA was a good starting point.

It has done more good than bad. Most importantly, people with pre-existing conditions, who in the past could never become insured, are now able to do so. This means they can lead healthy, productive lives. Nevada families should not have to suffer medical bankruptcy to stay alive. Sadly, the GOP has been able to sabotage the ACA. It was a hollow, cynical lie.
